This is a project commissioned by Nitric Concepts for Bedrock and entailed making a diverse terrain with multiple biomes using smooth transitions.
This project is a visually stunning one with a good balance between dark and light spots. The water itself is missing in this screenshot as the water would get adjusted after creating the level itself for better visibility.
Alien Farms was made after Colorado with it’s pine tree mountains and large wheat fields, being thoughtful of the theme I included various “Alien” signs within the wheat fields.
Better Survival was one of my first commissioned projects in with which I learned a great deal about level-design as a profession.
These images are biome maps of the Survival Expansion, Skyblock Space and Alien Farm projects from left to right.
The idea of vertically stacked caverns was a niche at the time and while I am happy with how it turned out, learning what I have learned I wouldn’t execute this idea in the same way again.
Opening up the caverns and laying them out more horizontally would be among my first changes if I were to be commissioned to do such a project again
These are the lower levels of the ocean trenches project full with seaweed, crystals and even shipwrecks.
A green mountain valley filled with ruins, lakes, quarries and custom mineshafts. In my quest to constantly improve upon myself I later added mushroom caverns to these biomes as well among many other minor improvements.
A project for which I created 120 different crystal spikes and randomly packed then together from 1 crystal to 8 per cluster in random rotations.
Besides these crystals there are huge amethysts floating in the sky with mini-biomes within them as to make sure the game-loop can be completed without cheats.
Presenting myself with a challenge with each commission that we get I start with laying out a basic shape using what assets I have available, change these until they are non-recognizable and keep on improving until they are better then my previous design in their own unique way.
This way I ensure my job keeps fun whilst proving the best quality possible.
